I did not know that. I'm sure you're right that my chair was never rated for the kind of abuse I put it to. Still, while your advice will certainly aid me in avoiding this problem in future, it doesn't really help me with my current predicament. So my original plea for a solution would be my follow up question. I put it to the internet at large.

You could ignore my plight, siding w/ Big Chair, and believe I deserve my fate for not properly observing the chair rating code, but if you choose not to, that'd be swell.

Hello, did you know that chairs are built with ratings for how long at a time they're intended for being used? A $90 is almost never rated for more than a couple of hours. Well if you have any more questions you be sure to let me know.

I love this post and agree heartily.... but I have one thought --- I think the "christmas" lights you're talking about might be HALLOWEEN lights which I think is way overthetop! Isn't halloween supposed to be dark and stormy and dimly lit and organic and rotting and acoustic?

Well said Gene-o. There's something special about the feast being the focus. On other holidays, the feast is kind of an additional burden (I don't mean like that it sounds). It's just one more big thing to accomplish, though, so we can call those holidays complete.

I agree with you except We've always put our Christmas Decorations up the weekend right after thanksgiving, which in some cases, isn't December :)

Last year I didn't do anything for thanksgiving and put my Christmas decorations up early so I could be festive for something, since I was stuck house sitting and couldn't go to Oregon to visit my family for thanksgiving, but I also don't own a giant house to put Christmas lights up in the first place, so I suppose my few christmas decorations don't really waste electricity and they don't push Christmas on anyone unless they're standing in my living room :)

Try flying somewhere every week! I'm getting old, so I can remember the days when I used to show up at the airport 30 minutes before a flight, run through the terminal and get to the gate within a couple of minutes of the door closing. Now I have to show up at least 2 hours early - just to make sure I get through security. The longest I've taken to get through on one trip - 75 minutes! And to make it even more fun, I get 'randomly selected' for additional effort quite a lot. Of course, I do look like a terrorist.
